Not all Super Tuscans were created equal. The originals were certainly marvels of modern winemaking and tore down the walls of conventional wisdom. Over the past fifty years the wine consuming world has come to adore the phrase and as a result, we’ve seen a fair number of unimpressive efforts to bear the distinction. Our Team is stringent in evaluating any red to brag about being a Super-Tuscan so when we find one we like, it’s first rate.
Admittedly, when we first picked up a bottle of ‘I Giusti & Zanza Villa Uffizj’ our tongues were twisted trying to pronounce it – and we this professionally. A family owned & operated Estate whereby all practices are entirely organic. Winemaking is minimalistic, letting the vineyard & vintage do the story telling.
The Villa Uffizj 2021 is an intriguing blend of Sangiovese & Alicante. The latter being a full-bodied, deeply colored red known to thrive in Mediterranean climate. While it’s not particularly popular in Tuscany – it certainly does well there. In this blend, even at just 20% it’s presence is well known. In your glass, you’ll find a wildly complex bottle with lots of classic Tuscan character married to a supple core of fruit and rustic structure. Enjoy it with your favorite Mediterranean dishes.
