Iron Ranger

You don’t often think of Bourbon in tropical drinks but recently when searching for summer Bourbon cocktail recipes we came across the Iron Ranger cocktail. It comes to us by way of San Diego cocktail bar Raised by Wolves and is the brainchild of bartender Erick Castro. It is fashioned in the style of a classic Tiki drink but with Bourbon as a base instead of rum. Included in the mix is Falernum syrup, a classic Caribbean mixer. It is made from a proprietary blend of lime juice and zest, sugar, almonds, ginger and island spices. It comes in alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions. We recommend Taylor’s Velvet Falernum, one of the tried-and-true brands that can be most often found in stores. For the adventurous there are numerous recipes to make your own Falernum which opens the opportunity to design the flavor to suit your own taste. Falernum adds a nice subtle spice to the Iron Ranger and the citrus juices bring the whole thing together perfectly. Looking for a way to dress up your Bourbon for the summer? Check out the Iron Ranger.
