The Toreador

Today we share with you the Toreador. It is a cocktail that was first penned in the 1937 Café Royale Cocktail Book long before most American’s even knew what Tequila was. First introduced to the United States in 1846 during the Mexican-American war Tequila didn’t actually get a foothold until 1968 when the Summer Olympics where held in Mexico City. Then the Margarita did much to bring forward Tequila’s reputation and eventually it evolved into what it is today; one of the hottest categories in premium spirits with a faithful following. Tequila’s best friend is lime, and the Toreador includes it with a bit of Apricot Liqueur, signature to the cocktail. We implore you to use a high-quality Apricot Liqueur such as Giffard Abricot du Roussillon or Rothman & Winter Orchard Apricot Liqueur. The rewards will be worth the cost! The Toreador lives in the halls of cocktails long forgotten but is worthy of resurrection. Olé!

The Toreador

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add:

  • 1 Ounce Blanco Tequila
  • ¾ Ounce Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
  • 2/3 Ounce Apricot Liqueur (We used Giffard)
  • ¼ Ounce Simple Syrup

Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail coupe.  No garnish is suggested in the recipe.
