The East India House Cocktail

Tue, Apr 01, 25  |  cocktail recipes

The Gentleman's Companion "Around the World with Jigger, Beaker and Flask" was published in 1939 and has become one of the definitive references from the Golden Age of Cocktails. Author Charles H. Baker Jr., was a Bon-Vivant who not only shares recipes from his travels but also tells the stories that surround them. Today we give you the The East India House Cocktail that Baker offers from his travels to The Royal Bombay Yacht Club in 1932 India.

The East India House Cocktail

  • 1 ½ Jiggers of Cognac
  • 1 Teaspoon Pineapple Syrup
  • 2/3 Teaspoon Maraschino Liqueur
  • 1 Teaspoon Orange Curaçao
  • 3 Dashes of Angostura or Orange Bitters to Preference

Shake with Lots of Fine Ice. Strain Into a Lime Twist Rubbed Manhattan Glass. This is a strong cocktail in similar vein to a Manhattan. It has nice tropical notes from the pineapple syrup and island spice from the Angostura. If you wish to temper the drink double the pineapple syrup for a sweeter, milder version.
