Chateau de Pitray

Back to Bordeaux …

Bordeaux is certainly famous for it’s dizzying array of ornate Chateaux and prestigious labels.  Home to some of the world’s most expensive, collected and adored wines.  The region revolutionized the way wine is graded, traded & appreciated – in both consumer appeal & financial investment.  Contrary to popular opinion, the region does still have some great values … and while they require some hunting, the rewards can be quite satisfying.

Chateau de Pitray is one such estate whereby there’s an overwhelming amount of quality for a mere $15.  This estate sits just outside the glamor zone of Saint Emilion yet utilizes a team led by winemaking ace, Nina Mitjaville.  Groomed during her experience with her own families estate, Chateau Terte-Roteboeuf ($200) since she was 16 years old – her talents have made her one of the hottest winemakers of the past 20 years.

Adding to this amazing pedigree is simple fact: The 2016 harvest in Bordeaux was nothing short of remarkable.  A great synergy of growing conditions resulted in wines of depth, precision, power & elegance.  Owned by the De Boigne family for 600 years (not a typo), Chateau de Pitray has never been around in robust supply – yet it’s always delivered big on value.  Especially in vintages like this.
