Barrel Pick: 1792 Full Proof 'MDCCXCII'

Our latest pick comes from the Sazerac portfolio of award-winning Bourbons.  Barton 1792 Distillery is the oldest continually operating distillery Bardstown, the heart of Bourbon country.  Named after the year in which Kentucky joined the United States – the facility sits on almost 200 acres with over 30 rickhouses.  This vast property hosts over 600,000 barrels of whiskey and we found one we think you’ll flip for.

It's a well-known fact, Sazerac never fully discloses their mashbills and while we can’t say for certain, it’s widely understood the blend most common at 1792 is Corn forward complimented by a heavy hand of Rye and a dose of Malted Barley.  Their Full Proof releases are adored by many for delivering rich, intense character – in fact Jim Murray, author of Jim Murray’s Whiskey Bible declared it 2020 Whiskey of the Year.

Our pick honors the legacy of this great distillery and it’s championed releases of the past.  We call this one 1792, just in Roman Numerals – after all, we were drinking high proof Bourbon when we came up with it.  Registering at 125 proof, some will enjoy the intensity of a Kentucky hug, others will prefer to let a cube loosen the flavors – ALL will say, that’s a great bottle of Bourbon!

The Bottle Pros

Big aromas of caramel, dried spices, apple tort, vanilla cream, sweet peaches, cornbread and coca powder.  This coats the palate with rich flavors, supple texture and waves of flavor.  The finish follows suit with unwavering layers of the aforementioned flavors.
